Chiropractor Rockaway NJ Marissa Abaza Adjusting Pregnant Patient

A woman's body is perfectly and beautifully designed to grow, nourish, and birth babies. As expecting mothers, we need not think of the development of our baby. The innate intelligence of the body controls and coordinates the entire process of forming this new life. Our bodies are so intelligent that no doctor in this world will ever know more than your own body.

The first and most important body system to develop in-utero is the brain and the spinal cord. The brain and spinal cord are collectively referred to as the nervous system. In science, we know the nervous system controls and coordinates every aspect of the body, from breathing, to pumping blood, to digesting food, to fetal development, and much more!

HOW WE CAN HELP IN Rockaway

During pregnancy in Rockaway, a woman’s body undergoes many hormonal and physical changes, and she often times endures things like morning sickness, mood swings, and unusual food cravings. Then, as the baby develops and grows, the mom's belly expands and her weight increases. This places biomechanical stress on the spine, spinal cord, nerves, ligaments, muscles, and pelvic region, which can be very uncomfortable and painful.

One of the hormones circulating throughout the mother’s body is relaxin. This hormone is needed to loosen the ligaments to accommodate the growing baby as well as prepare the mother for delivery. But, this important hormone can also make the bones prone to misalignments or subluxations. And once the baby is delivered, relaxin disappears from circulation very quickly, locking any misaligned bones in place.

Only through very specific, gentle chiropractic adjustments can subluxations be corrected so neurobiomechanics and physiological function be reestablished in the pelvic region allowing the mother to have a more comfortable and safer pregnancy, and allow baby to develop with 100% potential.

This is why it is crucial for pregnant mothers to get their nervous system checked by a chiropractor regularly. Chiropractic is a foundational part of a healthy pregnancy. Only when free of nerve interference is the body able to express its full health potential. As chiropractors, our main goal is to maintain the integrity of the nervous system so our innate intelligence can express itself freely.

Dr. Marissa is a proud member of the International Pediatric Association (ICPA), and has an advanced certification in Webster Technique – a well-recognized and trusted technique with both pregnant mothers and birth providers.

What is Webster Technique?

Webster Technique is a very gentle and specific analysis and adjustment that improves nervous system function and pelvic alignment. It is a technique that can be used on any weight-bearing individual, but has become very popular for pregnant moms because of the overwhelming positive outcomes.

If a pregnant mom has a pelvis that is misaligned, the muscles and ligaments in the pelvis become taut and restrict the baby's ability to get into the best possible position for birth. By correcting subluxations in the pelvic region, we can restore normal body function as well as assist moms in having a safer, easier birth.

Can Webster Technique help my breech baby?

Due to the empirical observations that moms with breech fetal positions were reporting correction of the breech position to the ideal vertex position, the technique has been (inappropriately) referred to as a breech turning technique. Webster technique does not turn breech babies; however, we do know that when the pelvis is in proper alignment the baby tends to go head-down.
